Way of St. James

The Way of St James is the pilgrim route leading to the grave of James the Apostle, whose task it was to convert the peoples of the Iberian peninsula to Christianity. The way begins, as does any other pilgrimage, in front of your own house door. The spanish part lies directly under the stars of the Milky Way, and for this reason, it was considered of special importance in Celtic times. This part of the journey is also known as the "Way of the Stars". The name "Santiago de Compostela" also refers to the name of the way - with "Compostela" meaning "field of stars". In 1993, the Way of St James was officially recognized by UNESCO for its worldwide cultural importance.
