Francis of Assisi, through his efforts, managed to bring harmony between the church and nature. Although he also spent time in Santiago and Jerusalem, his main place of residence was in Umbria, Italy.
Starting at the Italian border, one can find various paths which join the Way of St. Francis. On one side, coming from the Via Francigena on the west. On the other side, coming from the Via Slavica on the east. From there, the way leads through Verna, Gubbio, Assisi, and the districts of Rieti and Rome. The journey from Florence is around 500 km long.
